When I watched Strike Witches I
was pleasantly surprised. I didn't think I would really enjoy the
show, especially at the beginning. That first episode was full of
vagina shots. Not just panty shots, but those bottom-front vagina
shots that are usually found in adult moe or hentai. I was worried I
was going to be looking at 15-year-old kooch the entire show, which
bothers me since I am not into that. However, after that first
episode the vagina shots became normal panty shots and the show began
to focus more on the cuteness of the girls than the sex aspect I was
so worried about in the beginning.
This show is the epitome of moe. I am
glad that it didn't try to disguise itself as a action show, and I am
also happy that the creators didn't do an action show with a moe
characters – which is what I am seeing in overwhelming product in
the current anime industry. Strike Witches is purely a cute
girls show, and anyone who likes a good moe, now old-fashioned romp
will love it. The story is relatively simple in that the girls are
fighting the alien threat to the world and building a relationship
with the new girl, and even more so building stronger relationships
with each other. I loved how the story was focused on the story with
little bits about the girls in between, and it wasn't done in the way
that the girls were the sole focus with this little plot sitting the
background.
To be blunt, this show is just plain
fun, cute, and a joy to watch. It isn't anything super special that
breaks any boundaries, but in a market where good shows are running
at an all time low this show is a diamond among carbon. Moe fans will
enjoy it thoroughly and I say give it a watch!
The first season is on Netflix, the
second season is on Side Reel, and there is heavy talk about a movie. If you guys want to purchase hit up RightStuf.
