A Warhammer of a Time

I haven't posted on this since last semester before I moved back to Kansas. Wow. So, some pretty awesome things have happened since then: I am back with my first boyfriend, playing Warhammer 40k, living with my best friend, and I have a new car. I am sure as hell not going to go into detail about every little thing, so instead I am going to talk a little about Warhammer because I have one thing nagging at me.

This last weekend my boy (Jim), our friend (Kevin), and I all went to the gaming store to play a few games, but when Jim and I got there we saw this strange red-headed boy with Kevin. There was terrain on the board and their units were out. We introduced ourselves, and interviewed Kevin about the boy. Apparently, this is some guy he met at college and he wanted to join our game. SO. Jim saw he was playing Space Wolves and took his side (Jim plays regular Space Marines as a chapter he named The Silencers), and I (Eldar) was with Kevin (Tyranids).

Now, I have just started with the army with the toughest learning curve, so I am bound to lose a lot before I can build my army for a real win, but this kid made all my losses look like glorious ties. He made stupid moves and didn't listen to a piece of tactic that Jim gave him. Not only was he terrible, but he was slow and didn't understand his own army. I just have trouble memorizing things-- ANYWAY this guy kept calling Jim's marine "Vanilla Marines." I hate that term.

I understand that Vanilla Marine is a basic Space Marine, not a Space Wolf or a Chaos Marine, but when someone uses these words, it sounds vulgar and insulting. Jim put a lot of work in his models and their back story. By calling his marines Vanilla it sounds like a person only recognizes chapters with their own Codexes, and that all other chapters are ludacris and non existent. As far as I understand, GW wants you to create your own chapter and add your own fluff.

That's why I hate the term Vanilla Marines. It is foul, rude, and insulting. I will punch myself in the gut if I see that kid again and he uses the term.

That is all.
